Cross-cut Shredding for Better Safety
Whether you're disposing of financial statements, personal information, or junk mail, this shredder's cross-cut technology proposes high-safety protection. Insert as many as eight pages into the 8.7-inch entry slot and watch throughout the viewing window as the paper is shortly sliced across and down into 1/5 inch scraps. Even if your documents are folded in half or riddled together with staples, the stainless steel blades will shortly shred your documents so this you can dispose of them safely.

Ideal Size for Home or Small Office

Worked three weeks and Quit! 2010-02-25

When I got this shredder I loved it. We shredded things for a couple of weeks off and on. It did shred very good. The pieces are small so they will never be read again.

It shredded credit cards too. I liked everything about this little shredder until we emptied it the first time. After being emptied it would not start. It went in reverse but no more forwards. We followed the directions in the book and waited twenty minutes and tried to shred a piece of paper - nothing.

Finally we decided it had to go back. It's very disappointing to like a product and have it quit after a few weeks. I would not buy another one like this at all.

Good until it stopped for no reason 2010-02-24

This product was great until it suddenly just stopped working for no apparent reason exactly two weeks beyond the date I can return it. I bought it in November and it is only Feb and I may as well throw it away. This is a good reason not to buy on line. If I had bought at a local store, I would take it in and replace it! My job is hard enough without having to buy my own supplies and then have them break down.

Jammed but easy to recover 2010-02-23

This is an edited review. Originally, I rated it only one star when it jammed after I'd had it only 3 months. I found the owner's manual this morning with unjamming instructions in the troubleshooting setion, recommending forcing an index card through the shredder to unjam the auto switch. I didn't have an index card handy, so I used a blank 81/2x11 report cover. It worked great. It now works well but I think I'll limit it to less than 8 sheets in the future.

I searched the net for a shredder with steel blades and found the manufacturers site for this Aurora AS890C. Amazon sold it. Received it in about three days, and it works excellent. My last shredder had blades made of aluminum; they bent and jammed. This was the cheapest shredder I found with steel blades. It is as advertised.

Good economical home shredder 2010-02-11

When my old shredder stopped running I looked for an inexpensive replacement for use at home where my shredding needs are modest. The Aurora AS890C meets my needs well. It has a sleek and attractive appearance and just the right size to tuck next to my desk. I found its cross cut shredding to be quick and efficient. Advertised to be able to shred up to 8 sheets at once, I found that anything over 4 sheets seemed to put a strain on the motor but the unit did do its job. Most of the time I found it easier to fold the paper I am shredding since shredding a single 8.5" x 11" sheet requires one to carefully align the sheet to make sure the auto start feature works correctly, a minor inconvenience. Though the product claims to be able to shred papers containing staples the detailed instructions caution that doing so could shorten the shredders life. The instructions also recommend not shredding anything that contains adhesive such as labels or envelopes. The idea of shredding unsolicited mail offers all at once as some reviewers have claimed surely will lead to operational trouble down the road. In summary a good shredder for occasional use at home.
