Great Case 2010-09-03 |
| By A. Munro (Reading, PA) |
| Bought this to use with my new Kindle DX and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It is very well made, inexpensive and well designed. It seems to offer a ton of protection for my device, without adding much weight to it. The kindle stays in place in it well while remaining very easy to remove when I want to read. I didn't want one that stayed on my kindle as I prefer to read the kindle without having a case get in the way. Some other review mentioned a chemical odor to the case - there was a slight chemical odor when I first unboxed it, but it quickly wen't away within a day and even before then I was using it with my kindle. It's not a bad smell in any way and it was very faint, even if it hadn't gone away it wouldn't have bothered me at all. Over all a very nice kindle case and I would recommend it to anyone. |
If you like to read without a cover, this is the one you want 2010-04-21 |
| By Latte (OH, USA) |
I recently purchased a barely used Kindle DX. In the deal, I also ended up with 3 covers:
1. An M-edge one (but in pebbled, not smooth, leather): M-Edge GO! Genuine Leather Kindle DX Jacket (Fits 9.7" Display, Latest Generation Kindle DX), Smooth Black
2. An M-edge knock off in synthetic, scarlet red leather: Amazon Kindle DX Synthetic Leather Opening Case with Interior Compartments (Scarlet Red)
3. ...and this one that I am reviewing, the Octo Faux Leather slip cover.
I really don't plan on keeping them all, but have hung onto them for a few weeks just to see which I preferred the best. I upgraded from a Kindle 1 and even with that unit, I preferred to read without a cover. I was pretty sure I would want to do the same with the DX, given its larger size.
The other two covers appear similar but feel differently in your hand. The synthetic M-edge knock off is surprisingly good, *if* you want a keep-on cover.
After a few weeks of use, I have decided that for my own style of reading, this slip cover is the way to go. Both sides of the cover seem to be reinforced...if you slip your fingers just barely inside you can feel where it becomes slightly thicker over the screen. Since both sides are like this you don't have to fuss about putting the DX in one way or the other. The DX slips in nice and snug, it's not going to fall out in your purse or bag. As one other reviewer mentioned, I do gently depress the 5-way button when inserting it just so it doesn't make contact with the top edge of the cover going in.
This cover feels very protective and yet is slim enough to go in my tote bag without taking up too much space. I've thought of keeping one of the other covers for times when I don't really want someone to see that I am reading from a Kindle, but that would be pretty rare, I think.
If you like to read your kindle in your bare hands, no cover, this is the one you want. The dark brown is a classy color and the material doesn't have a much of a synthetic look as some others (including the other one above). |
Great Product with Only One Complaint 2010-03-26 |
| By Micah Wimmer |
| I have owned this case for my Kindle DX for almost 9 months now. It still looks as good as the day that I purchased it with minor wear from DAILY use. The construction is still phenomenal. There are no separations at the seams and my Kindle still slides in and out without a problem. My main complaint is two-fold. First, you have to leave your kindle out of the case in order to charge it, or put the kindle in upside down. The second complaint is that you have to remove the kindle completely from the case to use it (obviously), whereas other cases allow you to use your kindle with the case simultaneously. This makes it a slight inconvenience on the bus. These are just minor complaints, but does not effect my view that this product is perfect for what it does; protect your kindle. |
Octo OK! 2010-02-27 |
| By S. Keith Engelke (San Antonio) |
Previous reviewers indicated a problem with an odor.
I found no odor.
The fit is very snug. I am not worried about the Kindle falling out of the cover.
Since there are no clips or fasteners, there is no need to worry about harming the Kindle by improperly using them.
Also you can charge the Kindle with this cover on. Just put the Kindle in upside down.
The only downside is that the Kindle is unprotected when I am using it. Which is why I also purchased the extended warranty and would have done so whatever cover I had. Things happen.
Excellent value.

After 6 months of use, 2010-01-08 |
| By Joan Livingston-webber (west central Illinois) |
| this case is perfect. It slides into my bag. It helps prop up the kindle on my body when I'm reading in bed. I can hold it with the opening down and shake it, and the kindle does not fall out! It's like half hard-shell--more than cardboard, less than wood. I bought this at the same time as my Kindle. I got them in July one day before I left on a 2,000 mile car trip. I have had no desire to get another case. This is the one you want--just don't leave it in your car. If you did that here, your window would be broken out to steal it and then something else would be broken because the kindle wasn't in it. |
