Using for Lecture Recordings - College 2010-09-03 |
| By Dan of Colorado |
Definitely 5 stars.
I am finding new uses for this guy all the time now. I am going to plug it into my computer next and record straight from my laptop with OneNote. For those who are not familiar with OneNote, it is one of my favorite Microsoft products; and I have to say... I'm not a huge Microsoft fan. But then again, I'm more for competition than being a fanboy ;)
Anyway, OneNote allows you to record while taking notes on your computer. After you are finished recording, you can play it back and it will highlight the sections you typed as they are being played back to you. The Zoom H2 works great for this and as a student, I really appreciate the price too.
As others have stated, it is a bit bulky and a little cheap looking, but honestly, the functionality of it as beyond anything you'd get with so many other recorders. Being a pretend musician, I was surprised to see it had metronome functions and other cool gadgetry. In any case, well worth the price.
Other than being a bit bulky and a little cheap looking, this thing rocks. If I have to sacrifice those two for what this thing gives me with the price, it is well worth it. Last thought is just that it eats up batteries so buy some rechargeable AAs. With the clarity you get, I'm not surprised it eats them so quickly. It also comes with an outlet adapter so even if you lose battery power, you can still just hook it up to an outlet.
Great product and I am very happy I bought it. I hope they keep making new editions with the same great qualities this H2 has. |
Very Impressed 2010-08-29 |

| Basically in does what it says it will do. The sound quality is very good. The mics are very powerful. I sing gospel music and I am currently using it to make a live album. So after using this to record the show, I would edit and mix down the file for final production. So far so good. I will post the results on Cluetv soon. |
Materials are the tradeoff for great price and performance 2010-08-26 |

I also own an Olympus LS-10. This gives me the same recording ability 96/24 but it is much less expensive. You do get the ability to record with four channels which I am dying to try once I get my hands on 5.1 encoding software. Also nice and not included with other brands, A tripod to hold the unit, a handle to use the unit like a microphone, charger, and earbuds.
Some have noted the zoom doesn't have speakers built in. If you truly want to monitor quality those tinny little built in speakers are not going to cut it. You need monitors or quality headphones. I find that inner ear monitors work best in noisy environments.
As I said in the title there is a tradeoff in terms of material. Olympus does seem to have more robust casing and controls. This may be a big issue if you don't treat your equipment carefully. Time will tell, but I have no doubt that this zoom unit is a solid product especially for the money.
I am also looking at the Zoom H1 which will come out in Sept. 2010. This product may actually be the LS-10 killer. |

Superior recording quality 2010-08-22 |

| I bought this to record lectures and I am so glad I chosed this over other brands. The results are superb, clear, and loud recordings. Even when I sit all the way in the back of the room I can still here what everyone is saying in the front of the room. Battery life is average but you can't beat the quality for this price. Excellent quality and I will buy again from this brand any day. Buy this and you won't regret it. It's very easy to use, took me about 2 minutes to figure out how to use it. Light weight, portable, and does what it says. |
